Cranston is located in Providence county and is the third largest city in Rhode Island. Predominantly a residential community, the city also has a thriving commercial and retail center at the outdoor Garden City Shopping Center and the Chapel View Commons, located on Route 2. The city has 3 1/2 miles of shoreline on the Providence River/Narragansett Bay in the Edgewood section, along with a more rural western portion of the city.
